The Murrayfield Club – a ministry for people with dementia and their families.
This club meets weekly currently support about eight people with dementia, and their families. The Club is run in partnership with Community Health. The part time, paid, Co-ordinator is helped by volunteers from the three churches, who receive training and support. In addition to the weekly meeting, an outreach worker provides home support and respite for family members. The Club is funded by a Local Authority grant and a grant from MCT (representing the three congregations), regular fund raising events and occasional legacies. It is a registered charity and the Board is elected at the AGM, with representatives from the churches and the ‘users’ families. It is accountable to MCT.
The Murrayfield Club has recently been awarded increased funding by the local authority and this will enable increased support for older people in North West Edinburgh and especially for this with dementia. This increased provision is planned to start from quarter four 2008.
